An old idea is now new again, thanks to COVID.  It’s the concept of multiple generations of a family all living under one roof.  In days gone by, it was common for older parents to live with their children. Today, it’s more likely that an older person would continue to live on their own, or in an assisted living or personal care facility.

COVID changed that as isolation and quality of care have become concerns.  At the same time, children who have left the nest are coming back, due to job losses, housing shortages and other COVID related issues.  The answer for many is buying a home, or renovating an existing home, so kids, parents and grandparents can all live together – while still having their separate spaces. According to the National Association of Realtors, families realize that by pooling resources, it’s possible to buy a bigger home that can accommodate everyone.  The  Washington Post reports that some families are going multigenerational by purchasing two homes in the same master-planned community – one for elderly parents and the other close by, or even next door, for younger family members.

Think this living style could work for you?  Let the Vanguard Realty Associates team help you find a home or homes that could work for every member of your clan.
